before tim cover mudYesterday, I uploaded a small ebook to Kindle under my name rather than Black Opal Books, the publisher of the other Tookie books. The reason I did this is that I intend to give this short ebook away as much as possible, something that would be unfair to my publisher if they had invested in it. Tookie Before Tim tells the life stories of the title characters from birth up to the fateful day on which they first met. Only Tim Sent Flowers starts where this book leaves off.

Readers have had questions about Tim and Tookie’s early lives, particularly hers, because they are complicated characters who were impacted by their childhoods. This little book is intended to answer those questions. It might also encourage some people to read the Tookie series.

I put it under the KDP Select program because more people will be able to get free access (I think) to it that way. Its Amazon listing states, “$0.00 kindleunlimited.” Kindle Unlimited is an ebook subscription service that costs subscribers $9.99 a month and (according to Amazon) provides free access to over a million titles.

The Amazon listing also states, “Borrow for free from your Kindle device. Join Amazon Prime.” Apparently, Kindle Unlimited is one of the things paying $99.00 a year buys, in addition to free shipping. So, if you’re an Amazon Prime customer, you’ll be able to read Tookie Before Tim for free so long as it’s in the Kindle Select program.

KDP Select also allows authors to give away their ebooks five days out of each ninety-day enrollment period. I intend to take advantage of this feature and will announce the free days a week ahead to give all who aren’t Kindle Unlimited customers the opportunity to read Tookie Before Tim for free.  Click here for Amazon listing.

I will also make ARCs available to those interested in reviewing it. Email me at GeorgeQKaplan@gmail.com if you desire a review copy.

TGU Draft Cover

My next book, the third in the Tookie series, is nearing release and the publisher’s artist has sent me a draft cover. Tookie Goes Undercover is different from the two earlier episodes in that finding love isn’t her primary focus. Don’t worry, Tookie still has a lot of sex but keeping herself alive while discovering the culprits dominate her desires.

Right now, I’d like to hear opinions on the cover, possible loglines and genres.

So far, I’ve come up with three possible loglines:

  1. When counterfeit ED drugs kill men, Big Pharma’s sales plummet. They withhold campaign donations until the CIA teams an agent with a pharmaceutical statistician to track down the culprits.
  2. When her cover as a romance novel writer is blown, a pharmaceutical statistician faces Russian mafia, KGB thugs and bullets to bring the culprits to justice.
  3. With men dying after taking counterfeit ED drugs, an unloved pharmaceutical statistician teams with a delicious agent to uncover the source of the deadly pills.

And these possible genres:

  • Action & Adventure/Romance
  • Mystery & Detective/Amateur Sleuth
  • Mystery & Detective/Women Sleuths
  • Thrillers/Espionage
  • Thrillers/Romantic

Are there any advantages for a book being assigned one genre over another when more than one could apply?

ARCs will be available soon and I’ll be looking for reviewers. Does this sound like something you’d like to read?

Autoblow, sex doll, sex robot

Inflatable doll headLast time, I ended by saying I’m fearful of being obsoleted by technology. That’s not entirely true. No machine could ever be developed to give a blow job to compare with mine. However, many men aren’t so discerning and are happy with whatever quality they get. That fact was proven by the popularity of inflatable sex dolls over the years. Although crude, not lifelike and inert, lonely men unable to have relationships with women bought them by the thousands.

Over the years, the technology improved, at a much higher price, and lifelike sex dolls were created. They became so popular that one of them was the focus of a 2007 movie, Lars and the Real Girl. Anatomically correct Bianca was an order of magnitude more expensive than the inflatable sex dolls and could be posed in numerous positions. None of this was shown in the film.

In recent years, actual sex robots have been developed and are being used in brothels. Fortunately for us women, they are more expensive than most men can afford. Not so expensive special-purpose robots have also been developed. Those that perform oral sex on men are the ones that worry me. So far, the ones on the market are so basic in function that they can’t compete with a skilled woman. No man I’ve ever blown would pick one of these over getting the real thing from me.

Autoblow 2+XTA new model, the Autoblow 2+XT, has been announced and claims to have features that rival or exceed most women’s repertoires. For starters, it is hands free—if the man wedges it between pillows and lays on top of it—has two speeds and has five arms of beads that grip tighter than in previous models to give a more realistic feeling.

One of its purported strengths is that it doesn’t require batteries because it plugs into an ordinary electrical socket. That gives me a tremendous advantage. I don’t require electricity of any sort and get especially turned on just being in the woods.

As always,

Tookie

Can Women Compete with Sex Robots?

Today’s guest blogger is Tookie herself. She will be talking about the sex robots we’ve all been reading about in the papers the last couple of years.

The_Sensuous_WomanI knew I’d have to do something to attract men after I broke up with Tim. He was the only man who ever thought I was beautiful or wanted to marry me. I had enjoyed the necking and petting we had done, although I never let him know that. I missed his affection my first dateless weekend and browsed a bookstore for something interesting to read. The girls at work had tittered about The Sensuous Woman that had just come out, so I pulled a copy off the shelf and looked to see if anyone was watching me.

I took as a sign that the book opened to the section on giving your man mind-blowing oral sex because I’d always wanted to suck on Tim’s but was afraid I’d shock him. The little bit I felt comfortable about reading in public convinced me that voluntarily giving oral sex would be my ticket to an active dating life. Not yet having the self-confidence to blatantly slap such a book down in front of a clerk, I slipped it between two paperback mysteries and headed to the checkout counter.

My first attempt was a bit awkward but I enjoyed the power I had over men. Practice made perfect. With my hair grown out to shoulder-blade length, I needed only my lips, tongue and imagination to drive men wild. Their adulation inflated my ego and I wore my Carver-Watkins Blow Job Queen tiara with pride. The tiniest flirt from me was all I needed to get an invitation for a date from any man at work I wanted.

Fast forward some decades and I’m in fear of being obsoleted by technology. You’ve surely read about the sex robots that are being developed. Now, inexpensive special-purpose devices are being tested that are designed to make me obsolete. The specifics on that next time.

As always,

Tookie

Beach Book Festival, contest winner

Being an unknown writer poses numerous challenges these days, chief among them is getting people to read your books. One way of doing that is to enter contests, some of which review the book you enter. That is something. That my books usually make the finalists lists for their categories feeds my optimism that one of them will eventually win something. Even making the cut as a finalist gets the book some exposure, if only to other contestants and the reviewers. And there is always the hope a reviewer is someone important who might see the genius in the book that other, lesser, minds have missed.

When an email from Beach Book Festival arrived in my in-basket, I perked up. My Tookie books would be perfect beach reads. So, I entered the first one, the one Midwest Book Review* raved about, Only Tim Sent Flowers. Selecting a genre is always a challenge, especially since these contests don’t standardize the choices. I picked General Fiction, mostly as a default, and shifted my focus to other things.

Outlook has a nasty habit of shunting emails off to the spam folder almost randomly. This “feature” caused me to miss several important messages before I became aware of it. Now, I make a habit of checking the spam folder for good messages—except when I’m overloaded. While making a routine scan early this week, I was pleasantly surprised to find a message informing me that my book had made the winners’ list, meaning that it was either a winner, runner-up or honorable mention. A quick check of the BeachBookFestival.com revealed that Only Tim Sent Flowers came in second. Seeing eight other books listed as honorable mention gave me some consolation: my book was at least in the top 20%.

Contest officials wouldn’t tell me how many books were entered in my category but did say only 5% place. I chose to ignore the horse racing meaning of the term and interpreted place as meaning “getting placed on their winners’ list somewhere. That makes me feel better.

Not only did a positive review of Finding Mr. Wrong arrive from Amy’s Bookshelf Reviews. Her announcement included an additional surprise, a very special something extra that is described at the bottom of this post.

4 Stars Absolutely a lot of fun.

Tookie is one of those characters you don’t soon forget. She has Asperger’s but that does not stop her from wanting what she wants, loving life, and doing whatever she wants to do. This time, she wants a child. It’s more than just desiring to have a child, the husband comes first … and a great story, and I am a fan of Kaplan, and of Tookie’s. I read Only Tim Sent Flowers which was a wonderful read, and though it’s not required of this story, that should be read first, if only to set the tone for Tookie, and her interesting life and perception of life. Great story.

Your name is now on my top 20 Authors of 2018 list.

As far as I know, this is the first time I’ve been mentioned as a favorite of anyone! You can imagine my shock to see my name at the top of the list.

The Fiction Shelf

Critique: An imaginative, entertaining, fascinating read from beginning to end, George Kaplan’s “Only Tim Sent Flowers” is an extraordinary novel by a writer with a genuine flair for novelty and narrative driven storytelling complete with unexpected twists and turns. While unreservedly recommended, especially for community library Contemporary General Fiction collections, it should be noted for personal reading lists that “Only Tim Send Flowers” is also available in a digital book format (Kindle, $2.99).

Marijuana Makes Sperm Swim in Circles

09 Saturday Sep 2017

Women desiring to become mothers just got something more to worry about and those who don’t can breathe a little easier based on the findings of Canadian researchers. Dr. Victor Chow, of the University of British Columbia, said “The weight of the evidence is that marijuana probably has a negative impact not only for sperm counts but sperm function.”

Earlier studies found that marijuana can affect fertility by cutting sperm count and suppressing ovulation in women. What’s new is that these researchers observed the sperm of regular cannabis users to “mellow out” and “swim in circles.”

Lest the user think swimming in circles is unusual behavior for sperm, scientists have known for a while that they often do just that. However, they blamed it on “their erratic, asymmetric tail propulsion.” Sperm’s exceedingly long tails, smaller than the width of a human hair, will buckle trapping the cells in a circular loop if the semen or vaginal secretions they find themselves in is too viscous. This is true even if the sperm are swimming perfectly.

This past March, researchers from England’s University of York reported that they had discovered a mathematical formula to describe the “rhythmic movement of a sperm’s head and tail.” This “particular rhythm pulls the head backwards and sideways to create a jerky fluid flow.” Analyzing the approximately 55 million spermatozoa found in a single sample made creating a mathematical model all the more difficult. These seemingly counterproductive movements of the head and tail stir the fluid in which the sperm is surrounded in such a way as to reduce the friction and allow it to move forward.

To make matters worse for our intrepid sperm, women can unknowingly have hostile mucus in their vaginas. If the pH is too acidic, the sperm will be immobilized, unable to swim and will die shortly. Too little mucus and sperm will be like fish out of water and die. Artificial lubricants, including saliva, are often deadly to sperm as are some types of bacteria that grow in the vagina.

The best help a woman can give these poor sperm is to moderate sugary foods, alcohol and white flour products, drink lots of water throughout the day and to extend foreplay to help her body produce natural lubricants with the exception of cunnilingus which is to be avoided.

So, if a woman not wanting to get pregnant is into one-night stands and prefers going bareback, the best preparation she can make is to dehydrate, eat a bunch of Twinkies, drink a lot of booze, minimalize foreplay, excepting cunnilingus, which is encouraged, and share pot brownies with her Galahad for the night.

Softcover Release & Trailer Are Out Now

OTSF front cover w outlineI had planned on writing about the effects of marijuana on fertility, a topic of some importance to both men and women of child-creating age, but the print version of Only Tim Sent Flowers was received yesterday, pushing the sexier topic off until next time.

A little before 7:00 p.m. yesterday, a Saturday, I saw the familiar brown UPS truck pull up my driveway. Surprised to see him at that time on that day of the week, I trotted out to greet him, thinking someone must have sent some financial papers requiring a signature that I wasn’t aware was coming. It turned out that he had the shipment of books I had ordered from my publisher, Black Opal Books.

Seeing the surprised expression on my face, the driver said, “Saturdays are a regular work day now.” It seems that UPS has contracted to deliver Amazon Prime packages within the shorter timeframe that comes with paying for that service.

But you say that I bought the books from Black Opal Books and not from or through Amazon. That is entirely correct. What has happened is that UPS hates to operate inefficiently. That means if they are running a truck on a route to deliver some Amazon prime shipments, they don’t want to send out a half-full truck. So, they also deliver any packages they have on hand for people on the route instead of waiting till Monday. I was the beneficiary of this policy.

This was good timing because I had been working on a book trailer and had it almost ready to make public. Because of a recent hardware failure that forced me to acquire a new computer that runs Windows 10, something I had been avoiding for years. One of the numerous shortcomings of Windows 10 is that the Moviemaker program has been eliminated. So, I had to acquire and learn a new program.

For reasons too complicated to go through here, I got Pinnacle Studio 21. It is harder and more complicated to learn and use than Moviemaker but has some nice features. The one I like, but don’t understand, is Scorefitter. I’ve only used it once, for a soundtrack in the book trailer for Only Tim Sent Flowers. Check it out and tell me if you like it or not. Coming of Age Novel Released

The second edition of Only Tim Sent Flowers, the first of the three-volume Tookie series (so far), is being released this coming Saturday by publisher Black Opal Books in both ebook and print formats. Heavily revised to focus on Tookie’s coming of age, this version should appeal to younger (meaning over 16) readers in and about to enter their New Adult period as well as traditional readers of books with female protagonists. Told in first person POV (Tookie’s perspective) from an intelligent high-functioning Asperger’s who lives in her head, she shares her innermost thoughts (that she seldom reveals to others) with the reader.

Books may be pre-ordered from Black Opal Books and Amazon.com. Those interested in writing reviews can contact the author at GeorgeQKaplan@gmail.com.

Manuscripts for the second and third titles in the series, Finding Mr. Wrong and Tookie Goes Undercover have been completed and were recently sent to the publisher. No release dates have been set. With that writing, editing, rewriting, editing, etc. complete—at least until a publisher’s editor gets her hands on them—I should have time to tend to my blog more faithfully, especially since the newspapers have been filled with so many topics with potential.
