tookie before tim fb bgReaders have had questions about Tim and Tookie’s early lives, particularly hers, because they are complicated characters who were impacted by their childhoods. Tookie Before Tim is intended to answer those questions. It might also encourage some people to read the Tookie series. This little ebook tells the life stories of the title characters from birth up to the fateful day on which they first met. Only Tim Sent Flowers starts where this book leaves off.

Asperger’s was unknown when Tookie was a girl and, when it was finally identified as a syndrome on the autism spectrum, it was believed to be a strictly male issue. Girls weren’t believed to have it. So, it never occurred to Tookie’s parents or teachers that she might be on the autism spectrum. Thus, she has had to proceed through life unaware of the possibility.

Today and tomorrow, I’m giving it away FREE to anyone who wants to download it. It can be read on the Kindle device or the Kindle reader available for computers.

You can get it here: https://www.amazon.com/Tookie-Before-Tim-George-Kaplan-ebook/dp/B07M6SP29Q/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=tookie+before+tim&qid=1555712575&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spell

I’ve submitted the final edits for Tookie Goes Undercover and am now waiting for ARCs. They’re supposed to be out early enough to submit to the prepublication reviewers. Getting a review from a major reviewer can result in increased sales, particularly if your book is of interest to libraries. When the ARC arrives, in addition to sending it to review sites and magazines, I will be sending them to individual reviewers interested in reading it.

A reason for getting prepublication reviews is to get endorsements for the book to have available when the book is released. Blurbs—brief quotes extracted from reviews—are sometimes placed on the covers of books before the general public has read them. You’ve probably read some of them. “…An imaginative, entertaining, fascinating read…” and “…an extraordinary novel by a writer with a genuine flair for novelty…” and “…narrative driven storytelling complete with unexpected twists and turns…” all came from a single review of Only Tim Sent Flowers. Unfortunately, it came from a respected postpublication reviewer, Midwest Book Review, and wasn’t available for use when the book was released. Getting a positive review from them is a major compliment for a book but doesn’t boost sales nearly as much as a prepub review.

While we’re waiting for Tookie Goes Undercover, you might read Tookie Before Tim. It is available for FREE for those who eligible for free books from Kindle Select. Those who aren’t eligible can download a PDF for the book here: tookie before tim

After releasing Tookie Before Tim, I realized I’d left out an important segment in her life: her time in Milltown before meeting Tim. So, I’ve added a chapter and reloaded it on Kindle. I’ve also created a PDF version for those who’d like to download it. However, I don’t have one of those fancy websites that support downloading files. The easiest way to get a copy is to email me at GeorgeQKaplan@gmail.com and I’ll send you your free copy. If you feel like it, send me a blurb.

Thanks,

Can Women Compete with Sex Robots?

Today’s guest blogger is Tookie herself. She will be talking about the sex robots we’ve all been reading about in the papers the last couple of years.

The_Sensuous_WomanI knew I’d have to do something to attract men after I broke up with Tim. He was the only man who ever thought I was beautiful or wanted to marry me. I had enjoyed the necking and petting we had done, although I never let him know that. I missed his affection my first dateless weekend and browsed a bookstore for something interesting to read. The girls at work had tittered about The Sensuous Woman that had just come out, so I pulled a copy off the shelf and looked to see if anyone was watching me.

I took as a sign that the book opened to the section on giving your man mind-blowing oral sex because I’d always wanted to suck on Tim’s but was afraid I’d shock him. The little bit I felt comfortable about reading in public convinced me that voluntarily giving oral sex would be my ticket to an active dating life. Not yet having the self-confidence to blatantly slap such a book down in front of a clerk, I slipped it between two paperback mysteries and headed to the checkout counter.

My first attempt was a bit awkward but I enjoyed the power I had over men. Practice made perfect. With my hair grown out to shoulder-blade length, I needed only my lips, tongue and imagination to drive men wild. Their adulation inflated my ego and I wore my Carver-Watkins Blow Job Queen tiara with pride. The tiniest flirt from me was all I needed to get an invitation for a date from any man at work I wanted.

Fast forward some decades and I’m in fear of being obsoleted by technology. You’ve surely read about the sex robots that are being developed. Now, inexpensive special-purpose devices are being tested that are designed to make me obsolete. The specifics on that next time.

As always,

Tookie

Beach Book Festival, contest winner

Being an unknown writer poses numerous challenges these days, chief among them is getting people to read your books. One way of doing that is to enter contests, some of which review the book you enter. That is something. That my books usually make the finalists lists for their categories feeds my optimism that one of them will eventually win something. Even making the cut as a finalist gets the book some exposure, if only to other contestants and the reviewers. And there is always the hope a reviewer is someone important who might see the genius in the book that other, lesser, minds have missed.

When an email from Beach Book Festival arrived in my in-basket, I perked up. My Tookie books would be perfect beach reads. So, I entered the first one, the one Midwest Book Review* raved about, Only Tim Sent Flowers. Selecting a genre is always a challenge, especially since these contests don’t standardize the choices. I picked General Fiction, mostly as a default, and shifted my focus to other things.

Outlook has a nasty habit of shunting emails off to the spam folder almost randomly. This “feature” caused me to miss several important messages before I became aware of it. Now, I make a habit of checking the spam folder for good messages—except when I’m overloaded. While making a routine scan early this week, I was pleasantly surprised to find a message informing me that my book had made the winners’ list, meaning that it was either a winner, runner-up or honorable mention. A quick check of the BeachBookFestival.com revealed that Only Tim Sent Flowers came in second. Seeing eight other books listed as honorable mention gave me some consolation: my book was at least in the top 20%.

Contest officials wouldn’t tell me how many books were entered in my category but did say only 5% place. I chose to ignore the horse racing meaning of the term and interpreted place as meaning “getting placed on their winners’ list somewhere. That makes me feel better.

Review of Finding Mr. Wrong

Reader Views masthead

This review of Finding Mr. Wrong just arrived:

Reviewed by Sheri Hoyte for Reader Views (4/18)

“Finding Mr. Wrong” is the fascinating sequel to “Only Tim Sent Flowers” by George Kaplan, featuring Tookie, a girl on a mission. Her goal: to have a child – well, more specifically, a daughter of her very own. With the days of her reproductive opportunities whittling away, there’s no time to be picky with her prospects, any sperm donor will do. Or will they? After several ‘Mr. Wrongs’ Tookie realizes she wants her daughter to have a father figure in her life – an inconvenience to be sure, drastically limiting the number of qualifying candidates, as well as the chance for success.

Wow, this book was such an entertaining read! I fell in love with the author’s voice immediately. With a quick wit, a seemingly limitless imagination, and a sharp tongue, Kaplan brings Tookie to life in full magnificent display. Tookie’s trysts from man-to-man and bed-to-bed in search of the perfect partner are hilarious, and Kaplan uses his gift with dialogue to keep the story flowing almost impulsively, and always enticingly. What I want to know is how does Kaplan capture the very essence of Tookie’s personality? It’s almost like he has lived through her experiences directly! So fun!

Tookie’s character is only matched, in my opinion, by Rose, mother of one of Tookie’s conquests. Rose is on a mission as well – to find a vessel for her son to provide her with grandchildren. When Rose and Tookie go head-to head, it’s hard to imagine who will come out on top. “Finding Mr. Wrong” is character-driven action at its finest.

I have a horrible habit of reading series books out of order, and though “Finding Mr. Wrong” stands solidly on its own, I will definitely be back-pedaling to read “Only Tim Sent Flowers,” so I can learn more about how Tookie came to be the woman she is in this story. I highly recommend “Finding Mr. Wrong” by George Kaplan as an engaging humorous read that will leave readers wanting more.

swimmers cartoonHow do we give the girl sperms a major edge over the boys? Men have little control over the proportion of female to male sperms they produce. They just produce a mix of about equal numbers of each. So, it’s up to the woman to take control.

Sperm must swim through the uterus to have any chance at reaching the egg and fertilizing it. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on one’s viewpoint, the uterus isn’t a neutral environment in which all sperms are treated equally. Depending on the woman’s diet, her vagina’s pH may be acidic or alkaline. An acidic follicular fluid favors female sperm by rendering male sperms weak and directionless. How may a woman cause the pH of her follicular fluid to be acidic?

Eating a diet higher in magnesium, calcium, and acidic foods such as corn, meat, beans, fish, plums, coffee, eggs, liver, and yoghurt and avoiding alkaline foods such as bananas, oranges, potatoes and watermelon create an acidic environment. Supplements such as calcium, folic acid, magnesium, and vitamin C help make the cervical mucus acidic.

Men can help by keeping his genitals warm because heat destroys male sperms faster than females.

According to The Shettles Theory, boy sperm travels faster and have a shorter life span. Having sex two or three days prior to ovulation pretty much guarantees few male sperms will still be alive to do the deed.

The depth of penetration during intercourse affects where the sperm will be deposited in the vagina. Shallow penetration leaves the sperm near the acidic entrance to the vagina where deeper penetration favors male sperm.

While none of these approaches have been proven to work and would never guarantee a girl, they could help. Regardless, testing them could be quite enjoyable.

Girls Mask Their Autism

25 Thursday Jan 2018

I owe readers an apology. In September, I started a short series on how autism in girls is different than in boys. The last post promised a look at how autistic girls pass as being neurotypically normal by compensating for their situation. Since making that promise, I have been distracted by a number of pressing issues and opportunities. Now, I will finally get back to exploring how girls often mask their autism.

A core difference between boys and girls on the autism spectrum was observed by Dr. Louis Kraus, a psychiatrist at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago who specializes in autism: “Girls tend to want to socialize and be part of a group, even though it may be awkward. Boys, on the other hand, tend to be more isolative.” That difference causes girls to take steps to be accepted in social groups whereas boys often don’t bother.

One young woman, who wasn’t diagnosed until she was 19, always played with boys because she found sports easier and boys didn’t talk as much. Amanda Gulsrud, clinical director of the Child and Adult Neurodevelopmental Clinic at University of California, Los Angeles, observed that girls appear to have mastered what some call “social camouflaging” to mask their autism. Girls in studies stick close to the other girls to look like they are socially connected when they’re not really connecting. They didn’t have deep, meaningful connections or exchanges; they flitted in and out of the social connection.

Girls on the spectrum tend to be quiet and behave more appropriately than do boys. At least at younger ages, girls tend to be more verbal and socially interactive than boys. As girls age, they develop coping techniques and become experts in pretending not to have autism by camouflaging it.

A common way of masking is to develop a repertoire of responses to parrot when situations occur that she does not instinctively know how to handle. Tookie, for example, has little empathy for others (a common Asperger’s trait) but, over time, accepted that she needed to respond in an appropriate way to people who were grieving or undergoing painful experiences. She adopted, “I’m so sorry” as her stock response each and every time she perceives the need to provide emotional support.

The use of a stock phrase works most of the time but becomes repetitive with people to whom she has become close. This is yet another way in which maintaining social relationships is difficult for Asperger women.

Tookie Entertains Family Gathering

A fellow writer who critiques my books before I submit them to the publisher unwittingly let Tookie entertain her family’s Thanksgiving celebration:

At Thanksgiving, we decided to sing karaoke. So, my husband grabs my laptop and hooks it up so that the lyrics playing on my laptop show on our HUGE living room TV. Only the last thing I was looking at on my computer was your Tookie chapter.

So, as soon as he hooks it up, BOOM. Tookie, doing all kinds of penis stuff to Reggie, in huge bold print, right on the living room TV in front of my whole family lol! I wasn’t paying attention, so it’s up there for a few minutes, and my cousin and a female friend are like, “Uhhhhhh…” I’m cracking up.

I explain who George Kaplan is and why I’m reading this on my work computer. I dig out my copy of Only Tim Sent Flowers and I’m like, “Check it out. He’s really creative and his heroine is hilarious. I’ve learned so much reading his stuff. Like, in the ’70s, IUD strings hung out of the vagina (my stepmom nods in agreement). And last week I learned what a rusty trombone is—-DON’T GOOGLE THAT.”

We’re all flipping through the book and discussing the plot. My friend opens to a page where Tookie goes into deep detail about using cucumbers, carrots, Coke bottles* and more, to masturbate and she’s reading this out loud to the room and everyone is dying. People are taking pictures of the book cover and looking up the book on Amazon. I think I just sold like ten copies of your novel today lol!!! I thought you’d get a kick out of that story.

I never thought I’d be hanging out with my dad, talking about Tookie and the sexual revolution. But today was the day lol! They thought the book was hilarious and witty and I told them I laugh every single time I critique one of your chapters.

* Tookie considered testing the possibility that using a Coke bottle as a dildo could do her serious physical harm too risky to try.
