In 2012, a University of Albany psychologist, Gordon Gallop, claimed that pregnant women could put an end to suffering from morning sickness by giving frequent oral sex and swallowing the semen. He didn’t provide data to support his position but a 2000 NIH study suggests he is right. That study found that ingesting sperm orally lowered the incidence of preeclampsia in pregnant women. They hypothesize that women’s bodies sometimes react negatively to foreign objects placed in them somewhat like rejecting transplants. The lowered preeclampsia rates suggest that ingesting the father’s semen improves the tolerance to the fetus. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10706945

Gallup thinks, “the reason a pregnant woman gets morning sickness is due to the unfamiliar semen in her body due to the pregnancy.” He found that “the woman’s body will initially reject the father’s semen as an infection and react to it by vomiting.” He believes women can cure morning sickness by continuing to ingest the father’s semen so her body can build up a tolerance to it. All this is very interesting but what wasn’t said may be of more use to some expectant mothers.

Will swallowing her husband’s semen in the months leading up to her getting pregnant build up an immunity that eliminates having any morning sickness when she gets pregnant? Some women, like Tookie, would be more than happy to test this. Others would rather have morning sickness than give fellatio, let alone swallow.

What should woman do who don’t know who the father is? That’s a sticky wicket. If the woman is married and wants to stay married, she shouldn’t mention the correlation between oral sex and morning sickness to him. She should find out for herself. If giving frequent oral sex is a change of behavior for her, at least to her husband, she should tell him something like it’s a reward for knocking her up. If she still gets morning sickness, he may not be the father but it’s not certain.

A woman wanting to keep her marriage together should probably not test this procedure with the guy (or guys) who might actually be the father. She may want to suffer through morning sickness rather than tell some guy she doesn’t want in her life that she’s pregnant with his child. If you’d have to try every starter for the Cleveland Browns to find the right semen to ward off morning sickness, you better just get used to throwing up.

My publisher informed me that the manuscript for Only Tim Sent Flowers finally popped up to the top of the editor’s to-do stack. This book is my first attempt at fiction, women’s or otherwise, which leaves me uncertain about how extensive her recommended changes will be. Tookie, my protagonist, is highly unusual, if not unique: undiagnosed Aspiegirl with girl next door exterior and Scarlett O’Hara interior. The editor’s comments may be my Christmas present. They will arrive embedded in my Word document. I will have to learn how to use the track changes feature because it is part of the publisher’s workflow and there will likely be two more rounds of editing on just this one book. I’ll have to get more than conversant with it because I’ve finished the first draft of the second book in the Tookie series and have written a few chapters for the third volume.

Follows is the synopsis for Only Tim Sent Flowers:

Only Tim Sent Flowers, a possible first volume for a Tookie series, is the 92,700-word story of an Aspie girl who fully embraces free love while raising herself from near poverty to a six-digit income with bumps and grinds along the way. My first women’s fiction book is lavishly blended with humor and explicit scenes, often combined for unexpected results.

Mary Louise, a bookish redhead nicknamed Tookie by her doting father, dispenses with Tim, her loving but far too serious and conventional first boyfriend, then thrusts herself groinfirst into the 1960s sexual revolution, pioneering concepts such as friends with benefits and serial monogamy while earning two college degrees in statistics. Tim gives Tookie, a freckle-faced 18-year-old virgin who doesn’t consider herself pretty, everything except what she wants most—sex and excitement. Tookie rejects Tim, whom she never completely forgets and who continues to love her, then engages in often humorous escapades with innumerable unsuitable lovers whom she seduces with her oral virtuosity.

Tookie, from whose POV ninety percent of Only Tim Sent Flowers is told, is a unique but captivating woman—girl next door exterior, Scarlett O’Hara interior, Susan Vance in the bedroom. Her story will likely resonate with female readers.

When trying to write a post to introduce my heroine, Tookie, it became clear more background needs to be provided for things to make sense. I didn’t intend to create a character with Asperger’s Syndrome; I didn’t even know it was possible for women to have Asperger’s, let alone exactly what it is. Tookie revealed herself to me as I wrote the story. It was over a year after an editor called her the c word, while reading a scene in which she treated her first boyfriend badly, when I stumbled across a web site about Apergirls (also called Aspie girls) that I realized I’d created a character who displays many of the traits often associated with women who have Asperger’s Syndrome. Prior to that, I just thought I’d loaded her with more peculiarities than any real-life woman I’d ever encountered.

To claim complete credit for creating Tookie would be dishonest on my part. True, she came to my mind fully formed, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Like most men who’ve lived several decades, I’ve come into contact with a number of women and have had experiences ranging from excellent to horrific to baffling. The latter experiences, and the women associated with them, stick in my mind most strongly, perhaps because I couldn’t make sense of them. Until now, and I still disbelieve some of them actually did the things I saw them do.

Tookie was inspired by people I observed, often at a distance, as well as some I knew quite well. To suggest that she is a real-life person is ridiculous when one considers the mix of traits I gave her and the, sometimes bizarre, things she did. What real-life person would decide to earn the title of “Blow Job Queen” from her co-workers?

Tookie doesn’t know she has Asperger’s because I didn’t know it exists when I wrote the first volume of this series. Will she ever know? Will she accept that she’s Asperger’s if she’s told? She will reveal the answers to those questions in future volumes?
